Adventures of SNL

Hi Friends! TGIF, what sweet letters to type. This week was unusually crazy. Well, you know what they say, when it rains it pours.

My good friend Lauren and I took these photos a couple of weeks ago (and I am just putting them up now... what a slacker).  Lauren is an incredibly gifted photographer who, I am sure, will do big things. Her work will be featured on White Like Sage under the heading The Adventures of SNL (Sarah and Lauren). You may see more of her work {Here}. For this look I decided to a layer a crop top over a spaghetti strap dress.  Layering is always a trend I enjoy, but during the fall it is a useful tool in making those summer pieces last just a little while longer.  I also decided to debut my new spike bracelet. I cant decide if it's a fashion accessory or weapon. Maybe a little of both?

1970 in 2011

What goes around comes around is the theme of this post. The 1970s, ah yes, I am quite excited that bits and pieces of this colorful decade are coming back around. Okay, maybe I am just excited to let my inner hippie out. Regardless, I cant help my self when it comes to flares, platforms and beautiful wrap dresses. The great thing about flares is they look good on pretty much every body type. Accompanying my excitement for flares are the 2 beautiful vintage Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses I have hanging in my closet. The dresses belonged to my late grandma, Nancy. She was probably the most stylish woman I have ever met. Her attention to detail was impeccable. She managed to hold on to these dresses for almost 40 years and they are still in pristine condition, what a woman. I can't wait to post about them. Until then, here are the 70s photos that are inspiring me today.

Pumpkin Oat Streusel Muffens

Each year I look forward to fall as the cool weather and anticipation of Christmas near; but, I mostly look forward to the beautiful colors and rich flavors. Pumpkin being my favorite. I'm not usually a muffin type person. I usually go for a bagel or croissant in the pastry category but, like I said, I love anything Pumpkin. These Pumpkin Oat Streusel muffins were perfect for the first day of fall. The Streusel topping added just the right amount of crispy sweetness.

Recipe:

4 Cups Bisquick
1 Cup Oats
2/3 Cups Sugar
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
2 Eggs
1 Can Libby's Pumpkin Pie Mix (Make sure to get the pie mix and not the pure pumpkin)

Streusel Topping:

6 Tbsp. flour, 6 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1 1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon, 6 Tbsp Butter.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine bisquick, oats, sugar, cinnamon in a bowl. Combine eggs and pumpkin pie mix in a separate bowl. Mix pumpkin mix in to oat mixture. Fill muffen cups about 3/4 of the way full. For streusel topping mix flour, sugar, and cinnamon, cut in butter. Sprinkle streusel topping over muffin mix. Bake for 14-16 minutes and Enjoy

Mason Jar Madness

There is nothing I love more than taking an item and using it in a complete unusual way. The use of mason jars is a perfect example. Mason jars are not just a canning supply anymore; they are used in home decor, food presentation, among countless other things. I have a plethora of Mason jars used around the house, one seen {Here} and {Here}.  Mason Jars are extremely inexpensive, and can be used to imaginations limit. Mason jars don't necessarily have to be purchased though. I commonly reuse jam and spaghetti sauce jars. It's not only is an opportunity to recycle, but also a great way to create variety in shape and size. It's funny how ordinary household items can be used in so many inspiring ways. Here are a few photos that inspire me to get more creative with mason jars.

Pieces of Me

Jewelry is often seen as just an accessory, but if you have the right piece it can make the whole outfit. I love statement pieces because usually each statement piece has it's own unique story. Some of my favorite jewelry to wear lately is metal tone and multi colored pieces. Here is a collection of some of my favorite pieces and the stories behind them.
Hand-made glass beads from Murano, Italy. I got these on my recent trip to Venice. I love them because you usually don'y see square edges to glass works. When the glass is made it is liquid so there had to be a constant flow of motion. I imagine the tinny squares were super difficult to create.

Vintage European coin bracelet. Buying this bracelet was pretty humorous. I purchased it for less than the value of the actual coins that are on the bracelet. It's like buying money for less than what it is worth. Good Investment, no?

My Dad got this for me in India when I was 14. I love this purse so much I have held on to it ever since.

Birthday present from Drew a couple of years ago. Isn't he good!?

I love this piece because although it is chunky the small beaded texture makes the necklaces appear dainty.

Hand made by my cousin Rachael. See her art {Here}

One of my favorite neon pieces. you can see me wearing it {Here}
